Trip to Sarasota ... Continued

I always enjoy watching the quilts sell at the Haiti Benefit Auction. So often they just don't bring what I think they are worth.

The folks from Meigs, GA made blooming onions for lunch.

We left after lunch and went to Sarasota Jungle Gardens.

We ... being Paul and me, ...

... my cousin Ann Marie and Adan, and ...

... my sister Coleen and Glen.

The flamingos were so pretty and would eat right out of our hands. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they could survive on our pond?

And I loved the beautiful colors of the parrots...

... but wasn't too fond of all these alligators!

The walk through the gardens was also pretty.

And then it was time to head on up the road. Paul and I chose to travel along the coast just west of Tampa crossing the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

We stopped at Treasure Island, walked out onto the beach, and watched the kites for a while.

And then it was time to head on north for home.

Ohio Haiti Benefit Auction and Louisville, KY Railroad Bridge

Field work continues on the farm.

Paul and I had a trip to Ohio for a SLM Board Meeting and attended the Haiti Benefit Auction. He helped Levi Lees fry Mississippi catfish for the Friday evening meal.
This quilt, toy tractor & tricycle, and other items were donated to help raise funds for missions in Haiti.

There was an evening program with special music by this group of men, "Proclaim."

These mottoes are sure to beautifully grace someone's walls.

We left the auction a little early to get a start for home and stopped in Louisville, KY for the evening.
This old railroad bridge had been changed into a walk for pedestrians across the Ohio River.

And there was a nice park along the river.

OH Haiti Benefit Auction and Power Line Birds

SEPTEMBER

Life ...

Paul and I got to attend the Ohio Haiti Benefit Auction.
Cotton candy was quite the treat for children and adults alike. I pitied the lady on the right who was twirling the cones; but she didn't seem to mind getting sticky. She said someone needs to do it and it may as well be her!

I had a good visit with long time friend Yamelith.

We stayed with Fathers 1st cousin and enjoyed their bench by the creek.

... as a Quilter

Our Mississippi fiber art group met and showed our 8"X11" blue/bird pieces.

My piece, Power Line Birds is finished now. I'll be making a 2nd one as I didn't follow directions and made this one 8"X10." If only I would have looked three times at the qualifications!

Power Line Birds -- back
Ready for display. $35 SOLD

Life and Quilts

Life …

I enjoyed lunch with quite a few of our church ladies at a local Mexican restaurant celebrating Chrystal’s 40th birthday.

One day I visited Ashton’s kindergarten class.

… as a Quilter

I am thrilled that my piece “A Glimpse Through the Lattice”

… has been chosen to be included in the “Southern Accents” exhibit in Melbourne, FL at the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts.

Paul and I recently had a trip to Florida for the Son Light Missions board meeting.
Caleb Stauffer retired after serving on the board for many years.

Then we too like to take in the FL Haiti Benefit Auction. I especially like to check out the quilts.

Haiti Benefit Auction in Florida

Life …
Paul and I traveled to Florida with my sister Coleen and Glen from Georgia. Mother had been visiting Coleen and her family for a number of weeks so she came along with them. Here we are with Vernon K. and my cousin Ann Marie and Aden, waiting in the extra long line for a catfish supper plate.

The Voice of Praise acappella quartet harmonized beautifully as they sang songs of encouragement.

Many people gathered around to watch these men saw that huge log into boards.

I enjoyed a ‘blooming onion’ made by the group from Meigs, GA. So very delicious with either Ranch or Southwest dressing. This gizmo made quick work of slicing the onion.

Paul and I spent the night with his sister Dorcas and Randy and family on our way home.

Another sister, Lois and Titus and Kelly along with Melinda, Paul’s niece came for lunch before we left for home.

… as a Quilter
I was fascinated by this quilt at the Haiti Benefit Auction and loved the design and colors. Upon closer inspection we found it to be a “cheaters” cloth! It was beautiful anyway!

Mother and Coleen take a close look at this different quilt. It almost appears to be smocked.

I loved the color and design of this unusual quilt.
